We are introducing The Literacy Tree curriculum to drive our topics this year.
Our theme for September 2019 is:
Our focus books for Autumn will be: Where the Wild Things are, Bringing the rain to Kapiti Plan, I am Henry Finch and Halibut Jackson
As the children settle into the Reception classroom they will be encouraged and supported to explore all of the areas within the classroom and will begin to choose and use equipment independently.
During the first half term the through our key text of Where the wild things are the children will develop an understanding of floating and sinking and will experiment in our water tray which items float and which sink. As we move onto our story of Bringing the rain to kapiti plain the children will explore Africa and will compare it to where we live. The children will use Africa as the stimulus to our art work creating African patterns and masks.
When we return to school after the October break the children will focus on the topic of Ourselves. They will be encouraged to think about what makers them special and what their special talents are. Whilst focusing on talents we will explore the work of Jackson Pollock and will produce art work using his techniques.
Whilst preparing for our Nativity the children will develop their understanding of the Christmas story and will have the opportunity to create Christmas crafty and sing Christmas songs.
This term the focus for our PE sessions will be ball games and gymnastics. Our PE sessions will take place each Friday morning.
