Governors Register of Interest 25-26
Sarah Dowd - Chair

I attended school in Widnes and have lived here for most of my adult life. I am married with two children and three step-children.
I was previously a solicitor and partner in a law firm and have an in-depth understanding of business having led and managed teams for over 20 years.
I firmly believe that everybody has potential and should be given the opportunity to develop and reach that potential. I am also passionate about ensuring people having good mental health and am a trained Mental Health First Aider and qualified coach.
Adele Davie - Vice Chair

I moved to Widnes almost 30 years ago whilst on a career break to look after my two pre-school sons.
Prior to that I studied Economics at University in Leeds, then began a career as a trainee Management accountant before becoming a logistics manager at an oil company in Cheltenham.
Once the children were settled at school I retrained as a primary school teacher, spending almost 20 years as an Early Years teacher, Assistant Head teacher and Head of Early Years at a large three form entry school in Warrington.
I believe that all children can achieve their full potential if they are nurtured and given the support and encouragement that they need to access their education within a happy and inclusive school.
Emily Shaw

I began my teaching career at Widnes Academy, where I spent seven rewarding years working with the wonderful children of West Bank. During this time, I was passionate about ensuring pupils had access to a wide range of opportunities, both within school and beyond the classroom.
I now work in Bolton as a Curriculum and Assessment Lead, teaching in Year 6. With a new role, a new school, and a new community, I continue to embrace every opportunity to learn and develop, always striving to provide the very best for my pupils.
I am deeply committed to supporting every child in reaching their full potential. I believe all children deserve access to a high-quality education, enriched with meaningful opportunities that enable them to grow, aspire, and achieve.
Anna Myles - Staff Governor

I have been a proud member of the teaching community at Widnes Academy for nearly 20 years, where I currently serve as the SENDCo and Key Stage 2 lead. My journey in education has been incredibly rewarding, and I am passionate about mathematics and nurturing a love for mathematical thinking in children. I believe that every child has the potential to excel in maths, and I strive to create an engaging and supportive environment that fosters their growth.
When I’m not in the classroom, I cherish spending time with my three children, who certainly keep me on my toes!
Laura Kirchin - Principal

As the proud Principal of Widnes Academy, I am honoured to serve the West Bank community. Having grown up in Widnes and spent nearly 20 years at Widnes Academy, I have witnessed firsthand the remarkable potential of our students and the dedication of our staff. It is a privilege to work alongside such aspirational teachers who inspire our young people every day.
I am deeply passionate about ensuring that every child has the opportunity to succeed and that their world is opened up to endless possibilities. At Widnes Academy, we strive to create a nurturing environment where students feel valued and encouraged to explore their interests and talents. Together, we celebrate achievements, big and small, and foster a love for learning that lasts a lifetime.
I believe that education is a partnership between pupils, teachers, and the community, and I am committed to building strong relationships that enhance our educational journey.
