Our class teacher is Miss Parker.
We have a very busy and exciting term ahead of us. I hope you are all looking forward to it. We will be exploring lots of new learning opportunities in class.
We will be looking at some lovely texts together this term. In English we will be reading The Lizzie and Belle Mysteries: Drama and Danger by J.T. Williams, The Lost Happy Endings by Shaun Tan, AlteZachen: Old ThingsbyZiggyHanaorto support us in our writing. In Guided reading we will be reading Bright Stars of Black British Historyby J.T. Williams.
In maths this term Year 6 will be focusing on using place value to explore numbers to 10 million, before mastering using four operations. Then we will be looking at fractions, decimals and percentages.
In Science, we will be exploring the fascinating world of living things and learning how scientists classify and organise different organisms. We will investigate the similarities and differences between plants, animals and microorganisms, and explore how living things can be grouped according to their characteristics. We will learn about the work of Carl Linnaeus, who developed a system for classifying living things that is still used by scientists today.
Our Geography topic explores the question ‘Why does population change?’ We will become geographers by investigating how and why populations differ across the world and what causes them to increase, decrease or move from one place to another.
In our history topic, children will explore the local area through an exciting project with the Catalyst. They will learn all about the history of local landmarks, how the area has changed over time, and the impact of industry and community development on Widnes.
In PSHE children will be focussing on Connecting with others through exploring why healthy relationships are important?
Our RE key question of the year is ‘Is life a journey’ we will begin by focusing on Christianity and exploring how Christians mark the turning points on the journey of life.
Our Art topic will teach children how they can express their ideas through drawing.
In DT we will be designing and making our own playground!
In computing we will be looking at systems and networks.
.Our French topic this half term in French sports and the Olympics, children will be able to say and write what sports they play/do.
In PE pupils will be developing their skills in both gymnastics and tchoukball.
Our PE days are Monday and Wednesday this term.
Spellings will be sent out each week and children will be tested on Thursday. Children will also receive a log in for Sats Companion and will be assigned tasks to complete at home.
Reading books will be changed and sent home every Friday. We expect children to read this at least three times a week and for their reading record to be signed by someone at home.
