In Autumn we focus on settling the children into our new learning environment and getting to know each other, and the rules and school values. At Widnes Academy, we are lucky to have a large environment to stimulate children’s curiosity and develop a lifelong love of learning. In our rooms, we focus on our ‘VIP’ time (Very Important Play) and how we can help our brains to grow in our play.
We have 3 main rooms for children to learn:
Calm Room: This has our home corner, calm corner, reading garden, music area and our message centre.
Creative Room: This has our playdough area, sand and water area, investigation area, maths area, loose parts, construction corner, small world and creation station. A room to really help our imaginative play grow!
Our curriculum is well planned out, looking at the starting points and interests of all our children, from discussions with families and spending time transitioning the children into school. We have a big focus on vocabulary across our themes and use Drawing Club, to enrich children’s vocabulary further.
Our learning themes in Autumn are:
Welcome to the Widnes Academy family. This is where we focus on settling children into school. Talking about ourselves and our family, sharing how we are different and the same. Children learn all about the Widnes Academy family, and the rules and values of the school.
Autumn and Light and Dark. During this theme we learn about Autumn and the changes we see in our environment and within ourselves, as well as learning about autumn animals and what they do.
Space. During this theme children will research and learn about significant people in space. Learning about the different constellations and using their DT skills to design and create rockets.
Christmas. During this theme children will learn to share their own Christmas traditions, with family and friends. As well as learning about Christmas traditions around the world and from the past. Children will learn more about the past looking at different types of toys from then and now.
At Widnes Academy, we believe that a child’s first school years are one of the most important. This is why we strive to ensure that your child settles well, builds strong relationships and makes memories to last a lifetime and start their journey as part of the Widnes Academy family.
