A warm welcome back to all Year 3/4! I hope everyone is excited for the new school year ahead, a chance to start fresh and set high standards for the rest of the year.
Our topic this term is, “A whole new world.” We will be comparing the UK to Russia, looking at all the similarities and differences between the two countries. We will also be looking at the famous Russian artist, Wassily Kandinsky and trying to replicate his amazing work. In literacy, we are taking a magic carpet ride with Leon and The Place Between and reading taking a trip to where the magic sends you! We will also be looking at how the world has transformed thanks to electricity, using our science lessons to research and experiment with electric circuits and in history we will be looking at the impact Alexander Graham Bell had on changing the world.
We are swimming this half term on Tuesday’s before lunch so please make sure all boys have swimming trunks (no longer than the knee) and girls are wearing one-piece swimming costumes and not bikinis. We also have Mrs James coming in on a Wednesday to teach us recorder, it would be amazing if children were given the opportunity to practise at home.
Homework will be sent out each Friday and will involve an English task and a Maths task, both based on work we will have done throughout the week.
Reading books will be changed on a Monday and a Wednesday and the children should read each night at home, either the book from school or their own choice of book from home. Remember all children also have free access the online library at Oxford Reading Buddy.
We are introducing The Literacy Tree curriculum to drive our topics this year.
Our focus books for Autumn will be: Leon and the Place Between, The Heart and the Bottle, Varmints and The Tin Forest
